Incoming First-Year Online Class Registration

As you prepare for Fall 2023 class registration, use the following information, resources, and tips for preparing for registration.

Class registration for incoming GW Engineering (SEAS) first-year students took place July 18, 8am - 12 pm EDT. Class registration for all other academic schools will take place July 25-27, 8-11 am and 5-8 pm EDT. In order to register, students will be asked to sign up for one 3-hour timeslot based on academic school in their admitted student portal

How Class Registration Works

Sign-up for ONE Online Class Registration Session

You can sign up for a 3-hour timeslot in your admitted student portal upon depositing and registering for New Student Orientation. Registration for class registration sessions will close July 14. If all timeslots are full, please email [email protected] immediately. Be sure to include your name and GWID in the email!

Complete the Fall 2023 New Student Orientation Online Module Part 1: Academic Advising & Class Registration AND sign up for a mandatory first-year group advising webinar

Please complete your module by June 23. The module will cover important class information and how to sign up for a mandatory first-year group advising webinar.

Complete the Academic Interest Survey

Please complete your survey by May 21st. Results from this quick 5-minute survey will be used to assist your advisor during virtual advising sessions and will allow them to connect you to various academic resources.

Utilize the Plan Ahead feature to prepare for your class registration timeslot

Plan Ahead will allow you to create up to 5 plans when preparing for registration. Please see the following video guide on how to use Plan Ahead.

At the beginning of your timeslot, log into GWeb and register for your classes

Use your UserID and password to log into GWeb. Once you are logged in, go to the Student Records and Registration page and click on the Registration Menu. Once registration is open, students can use the “Register for Classes” link and begin the registering. You can learn more about registering for classes on the Office of the Registrar's webpage.

 Please ensure GWeb is only open in one browser across all devices (e.g. laptop, mobile phone, tablet) when registering.

Note that adding classes to your "Summary" does not register you. You must click "Submit" to complete your registration. 


Class Registration Support

New first-year students registering for fall 2023 classes can access support during each registration date and time. 

 

Core Curriculum, Major Requirements, School-Specific/ Concentration-Specific Questions

For advising-related questions, such as core curriculum and major requirements, course equivalencies, and overall schedule assistance please utilize any of the following means of communication to get in contact with an academic advisor in your school.

School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS)

 All incoming GW Engineering first-year students will register for classes on July 18, 8am-12pm EDT. However, each student will need to register individually through this sign-up link. On July 18,  for Day of Support, we have created the following Zoom Link:

Special Program Support

 

University Honors Program (UHP)

All UHP students are pre-registered for their Honors classes (HONR 1015 and HONR 1033/approved alternative). If you have questions please email Jasmine Williams: [email protected].
Varsity Athletics 

All First-Year Varsity Student-Athletes will register during the regularly scheduled times. If you have questions on practice times or specifics for your Varsity Athletic team please email James Hellekjaer: [email protected].

Troubleshooting

If you are having trouble accessing the registration system, please check your GW email for the confirmation email you received after signing up for an online class registration date and time in your admitted student portal over the summer. Please ensure GWeb is only open in one browser across all devices (e.g. laptop, mobile phone, tablet) when registering.

If you run out of time or would like to change your schedule after your window, you will be able to gain access to the system during the the add/drop period, opening at 12 noon ET on July 28.

In addition to registering for class, be aware of any mandatory placement exams or courses that may be required for your classes. Reach out to your academic advisor with any questions about placement exams and courses for your schedule.
