Alumni Relations

The Office of Alumni Relations serves the more than 225,000 alumni living in 150 countries around the globe and furthers three main goals: enabling lifetime engagement, gathering a voice for alumni, and building a culture of philanthropy.

Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service

Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service aims to integrate civic engagement into George Washington University’s educational work. The Center focuses GW’s resources to meet community needs beyond the campus; promotes active citizenship in a diverse democracy; and enhances teaching, learning, and scholarship at GW.

Colonial Central

Colonial Central, located in the Ground Floor of the Marvin Center brings together a number of administrative offices into a consistent and cohesive service experience: the Cashier's Office processes payments; the GWorld Card Program provides administration over the university ID card and meal plan; the Office of the Registrar maintains a student's academic record, enables course registration, and prints student transcripts; the Student Accounts Office is responsible for billing and account management; Student Financial Assistance provides financial assistance through scholarships and loans; Student Parking Services offers student parking permits; and Veteran Services answers questions about the GI Bill benefits and serves as a liaison for veteran students.

Disability Support Services

Disability Support Services (DSS) is committed to insuring all students with disabilities have equal access to educational opportunities. DSS also serves as consultants to others who may suspect their participation in an academic program is being compromised by a disability. Services provided without charge may include: registration assistance, readers, interpreters, scribes, individualized learning specialist support, adaptive materials and equipment, assistance with note taking, laboratory and library assistance, and test accommodations. DSS encourages all students to participate actively in making their campus culture one that is inclusive, diverse, and collaborative.

GW Police Department

Campus security is an important concern of students and parents alike. The GW Police Department (GWPD) is a large, experienced force; our campuses are also served by the Washington Metropolitan Police Department and federal police agencies. Campus security:

  • operates 24 hours a day
  • uses 100 uniformed officers
  • features additional security services, including emergency blue light phones, a campus shuttle, bicycle registration, the 4-RIDE campus ride service and Alert DC text messaging service
  • includes residence halls fitted with card readers, accessible only to those with a student ID access card

Academic Commons

Academic Commons is a “one-stop shop” for academic resources and services across the university. GW offers a wide range of academic support, including peer tutoring, writing and research help, study spaces search tool, academic software and technology, and fellowship opportunities.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Resource Center

The George Washington University Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Resource Center provides a comprehensive range of education, support and advocacy services to create and maintain an open, safe, and inclusive campus environment. The LGBT Resource Center welcomes a diversity of racial, ethnic, religious, political, and cultural values and is committed to enhancing acceptance and quality of life for the entire GW community.

Multicultural Student Services Center

The Multicultural Student Services Center (MSSC) has developed strategies for student success through diversity education, programs, and services.  MSSC emphasizes the importance of providing learning, reflecting, and connecting spaces for students around gender, race, culture, sexual orientation, spirituality, and socio-economic status.

Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

The Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship serves as a focal point for innovation and entrepreneurship at GW. It provides services and programming in innovation, education, venture creation, and making connections to support GW innovators and entrepreneurs and the Mid-Atlantic startup community. 

The Division of Information Technology (IT)

GW has valuable technology services for students. These are an important component of a successful academic and social experience at the University. High-speed Internet connections in the residence halls and convenient indoor and outdoor wireless hot spots (GWireless) give GW students access to many online resources. Through GWMail, which uses a Google Mail interface, students have six gigabytes of storage space. For extensive technology support, The Division of Information Technology offers convenient walk-in and hotline hours for students.

The Store

The Store is a student-run food pantry at the George Washington University (GW) that is managed by the Store student organization and the Student Life team, providing free food items for students living with food insecurity. Over the past couple of years, this need has increased on college campuses as students make hard choices about how to spend their limited resources. Our mission is to address student need at GW by offering food and other resources to ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed. Students who would like to access the pantry should complete the Store Access Request Form, and can access the pantry by using their GWorld cards to tap into the Store.
