The Raise Up GW Co-Curricular Certificate program allows students to expand their knowledge of well-being, identify ways in which well-being plays an integral role in their success at GW, and gain knowledge of on-campus well-being services. Participants will engage in one workshop of their choosing related to each of the eight dimensions of well-being: Physical, Social, Emotional, Intellectual, Financial, Environmental, Spiritual, and Cultural.

Unique Workshop Offerings in Fall 2020

Program Requirements

Upon acceptance into the program, students must complete the following requirements to receive recognition: 

  • Attend one Introduction to Well-being Session in early October
  • Attend one workshop in each of the eight dimensions of well-being, for a total of eight workshops
  • Plan and implement one well-being outreach activity with Health Promotion & Education
  • Attend one Mid-year Check-in Session in early December
  • Attend one Closing Session in early April, which includes a culminating experience

Upon successful completion of the program, students will:

  • Earn a well-being certificate
  • Receive a graduation cord
  • Be recognized at the Student Life Awards
  • Attend a special event with Dean Petty and Senior Associate Dean Coleman

Frequently Asked Questions

This program is open to all GW students. Both undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to apply.

Students can complete the application on Engage by September 27th at 11:59 PM. Students will be notified on September 29th of their selection into the program.

Transferable skills are important to employers. In alignment with competencies outlined by the National Association for Colleges and Employers (NACE), our certification program provides students the opportunity to develop skills in critical thinking and creative problem solving, communication, teamwork and collaboration, and global perspective.

Students will have two semesters to complete the program requirements. Particpants in the fall cohort may begin attending workshops in October 2020 and will need to complete workshop requirements in March 2021.

Participants will register for sessions on the Raise Up GW portal in Engage. To receive credit, participants must:

  1. Be regisered for the session in Engage, and
  2. Complete the Session Evaluation Form within 3-5 days of the session.

Both steps are required to gain credit.

Staff from the Office of Health Promotion and Education will track student participation. Students will receive an update in early December about their progress. Students are encouraged to also keep track of their own progress.

Yes, particpants are welcome to attend as many sessions as they would like. To receive the certification, participants must complete at least one workshop in each dimension of well-being.

In addition to the Raise Up GW Co-Curricular Certificate, the Co-curricular Certificate Program offers two other certification tracks.

  • The Civic Leadership Certificate, hosted by The Honey W. Nashman Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service, provides an opportunity for GW students to strengthen their civic leadership knowledge and skills across the Pathways to Public Service and Civic Engagement.
  • The Leadership Exploration Certificate, hosted by Student Life’s Student Involvement and Leadership team, provides an opportunity for GW students to take an intentional approach to their leadership journey by exploring and developing their individual leadership style, knowledge, and skills.
