GW Centuries Celebration Student Showcase, October 1 & 2

Celebrating 200 Years of Student Life at GW

The entire GW community is invited to gather together in Washington, D.C. from October 1-3, 2021, for Our Moment, Our Momentum: The GW Centuries Celebration Weekend. This culmination of our bicentennial includes in-person events and activities for alumni, students, faculty, staff, and GW families, as well as Commencement for the Classes of 2020 and 2021.

During this weekend, the Office of Student Life is thrilled to host Student Showcase, a series of student-led events that highlight the talents of our student body. Events will take place Friday, October 1 and Saturday, October 2.

Please note that some events require advance registration or tickets, others suggest a donation at the door, and others are free.

The Corcoran Program of Music's Fridays @ 5 is back and kicking off the fall in the Grand Ballroom with everything from Jazz and Chamber to the University Choir, Electronic to Spoken Word, representing all that we learn together and building community together! It's fun, laidback, and popular with faculty, students, alumni, and anyone who drops in!

Class Council Presents: Centuries Celebration Dance Showcase

GW Class Council presents a showcase of dance performances and choreography by GW’s performing arts student organizations. No tickets required; a $5 donation at the door to support the GW Class Council is suggested.

Program Board Presents: A Conversation with Katie Ledecky

Program Board is excited to host A Conversation with Katie Ledecky, the 10-time Olympic Medalist and 15-time World Championship Gold Medalist! A recent graduate of Stanford University, Katie is passionate about the importance of education, especially STEM and leadership programs for girls. All attendees must reserve a ticket to the event on Eventbrite. Current undergraduate and graduate students can claim a FREE “Student Ticket” to the event and will be required to show a valid GWorld card along with their ticket for entry. Non-student guests, including alumni, parents, families, and friends of the University, must purchase a “Guest Ticket” ($10) for the event. Be sure to secure your spot so you don't miss out on this exciting event!

Speakers of the House: The GW Spoken Word Collective Presents Open Mic Night

All acts are welcome at the Speakers of the House Open Mic Night, including music, comedy, spoken word, and more. Anyone from the GW community or beyond is welcome to attend, whether to support performers or perform yourself!

Join us for the annual family and alumni weekend aca-concert featuring all of GW’s incredible a cappella groups, including: The GW Troubadours, Sons of Pitch, The GW Vibes, GW Sirens, The GW Pitches, and GW MotherFunkers.

A minimum donation of $5 is suggested at the door, with proceeds to benefit Miriam's Kitchen -- a non-profit organization located dedicated to combating homelessness in the District of Columbia.

The GW Shakespeare Company Presents: Shakespeare Smackdown

Shakespeare Smackdown is an annual competitive scene and monologue showcase featuring excerpts from across Shakespeare’s work! This year's Smackdown will feature scenes from Twelfth Night, Romeo and Juliet, The Tempest, and more. Smackdown will be performed October 1 at 10 PM and October 2 at 8 PM in the Betts Theatre in the University Student Center. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door.

Organization of Latin American Students Presents: Meet La Familia

Saturday, October 2 | 6-9 PM | Grand Ballroom
Hosted by Organization of Latin American Students

Meet la Familia or Meet the Family is a beloved Latinx Heritage Celebration tradition that brings together those in the Latinx community and beyond to share Latinx food, connect with one another, and celebrate the Latinx community at GW. All are welcome at Meet La Familia, which will feature cultural dishes, Latinx student organizations, and a Latinx Professor Panel.
