Rock Creek Park: Capitol Stones Hike

Come join TRAiLS for a casual hike to Rock Creek Park, a natural oasis in the heart of Washington, D.C. This hike has a fun twist; we'll be hiking to the legendary Capitol Stones, hidden ruins of D.C. monuments dumped by the National Park Service in the middle of the park. In total, we'll be hiking 4.6 miles through the woods, in glens, and across streams. The hike is perfectly suitable for beginners, with little elevation. Be prepared for a bit of mud and chilly temperatures.

Saturday, December 4 at 10:00 am

Cost: Free! (Metro not included)

Olg Rag Hike

The Old Rag hike is a trademark favorite for DC hikers and features challenging rock scrambles and stunning views of the Shenandoah Valley.  Located in the heart of Shenandoah National Park, the mountain trail has a fun 2 mile section of scrambling and sliding through and around granite boulders on the way to the summit. As the tallest mountain in Virginia, we will be rewarded with beautiful views as we eat lunch at the summit. It is important to note that the National Park Service considers this trail as "very strenuous," due to the fact that we will be gaining 2,400 feet in elevation across a 9.5 mile loop. This is a very challenging but rewarding hike!

Sunday, December 5 at 8:30 am

Cost: $20
