Congratulations & Welcome to GW!

Thank you for choosing us! You are about to embark on an exciting and transformational moment in your life as one of the newest members of our George Washington Community.

You are joining the ranks of more than 300,000 distinguished alumni in over 150 countries with careers that span every industry, and they started exactly where you are now—as a student who chose GW as the "Next Stop" on their journey.

This fall, as you prepare to join our GW community in January, we—the New Student Orientation (NSO) team—will be your guides during this transition. Our roles are to help orient, connect, and support you, your families, and all our undergraduate students who will be attending GW for the first time in spring 2024.

What's Next in Your Journey to GW?

Next Stop, GW will be the main way that our team, and our colleagues from other offices around campus, will communicate with you until your January arrival and orientation.

Next Stop, GW: Orientation Edition will be in your inbox approximately every other week until mid-January. This regular update includes action items to complete before your arrival, community updates, and more.

>> Check out your first set of action items after this intro.

Next Stop, GW: Campus Housing will arrive in your GW inbox within the next week with information about our residence halls and how to register for on-campus housing.

Next Stop, GW: Special Editions will come from the Student Health Center, GWorld, and maybe other offices so that you can learn more about some of our campus resources and services.

Task to Complete By November 8:

HINT: Want to get ahead? The entire first-year checklist is in your admitted student portal.

PRO TIP: Write down your login information to the admitted student portal and keep it in a safe place, as it is is different from your GW UserID (GW email).

ACTIVATE Your GW IDENTITY to Create Your GW Email.

  • Hint: If you are reading this update via your GW email address, you are all set! If you received this email to your personal email address, please go activate your GW Identity by November 1, or as soon as possible so that you can get started on other action items! Need help? Visit the ITHelp article GW Account Activation for New Users
  • Why do you need to activate your GW Identity? You will need your UserID and GW email to apply for housing, register for orientation, register for classes and much more. Your UserID starts with the letter G followed by an eight-digit number. Once you have your email set-up, check your GW email often – we suggest daily! Your GW email is the primary means by which GW offices and units will communicate with you while you are enrolled at GW. Reminder, after November 1 we will no longer send emails to your personal email.

REGISTER for First-Year Orientation Programming

  • This is the only form you will need to complete to register for both virtual and in-person orientation sessions. We start meeting online later this month and will be in-person on Sunday, Jan. 14.

NOTE: There will be additional tasks to complete when we send our next update.
