Hello and Happy New Year

We hope you were able to enjoy the winter holiday season!  While we enjoyed our time away from work we were eager to return to campus to prepare for your arrival! We want your transition to GW to be as smooth as possible as you prepare to join our Revolutionary community!

We are so excited to meet you and to personally welcome you to our community during Spring New Student Orientation on Sunday, Jan. 14 from 9 am - 4 pm in the University Student Center. Check-in begins at 8:30 am in front of Betts Theater on the 1st floor (near the elevators and Admissions Welcome Center).

During Sunday's program, you will have the opportunity to engage with university leaders and campus partners as you learn more about the many resources and opportunities available to you at GW. Next week, the student staff members who will be leading your Small Group session and Campus Resource Tour will reach out to you directly for a pre-orientation touch-base. Your group leader will provide you with more information about the schedule and what to expect during our day together. Make sure you register for Orientation in order to receive that email from your Orientation Leader!

We encourage you to complete your pre-arrival action items. If you have questions, please reach out to us at [email protected]

DEADLINE TODAY: UPLOAD mandatory immunization forms by Jan. 4, 2024

DEADLINE MONDAY: SIGN UP for proctored ALEKS exam by Jan. 8

  • If you plan to take ECON 1001, ECON 1011, MATH 1231, and/or MATH 1252 in Spring 2024 you are required to take the proctored ALEKS exam in-person, on campus on Tuesday, Jan. 16 or Wednesday, Jan. 17.
    • Sign up and answer all questions so that they can assign you a time and room for the test. The survey must be completed by Jan. 8.
    • Students who are not planning to take one of the above courses this spring are not required to take the placement exam.
    • Even if you have achieved the needed score on the virtual (unproctored) ALEKS exam, all students starting at the university are required to also have the minimum score on the in-person proctored exam in order to remain in their placement or register for one of the above classes.

COMPLETE your Pre-Orientation Online Module by Saturday, January 13.

  • These sections help prepare you for class registration, GW resources for personal and academic support, dining, navigating campus and D.C., and much more.

PAY your invoice for Tuition, Fees, and Room & Board by the first day of classes – Jan. 16, 2024

  • You will receive an invoice after you complete your spring 2024 class registration.
    • Payment is due by the first day of classes (Jan. 16) unless you sign-up for a payment plan.

Review GW’s Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) Coverage

  • All undergraduate students must have medical health insurance coverage while enrolled at GW. Students are automatically enrolled in the GW Student Health Insurance Plan provided by Aetna Student Health.
    • If you are still covered by a parent’s or guardian’s employer coverage and want to continue using their health insurance plan instead of the GW Insurance Plan, you must waive out of GW’s Student Health Insurance each year you are enrolled at GW.
    • The waiver period for the spring semester for new students is Dec. 1, 2023 - Feb. 1, 2024.

Complete Mandatory Trainings for New Students

  • All new undergraduate students are required to complete three online trainings: AlcoholEdu for College Students, Title IX Fundamentals for New Students, and Diversity, and Equity & Inclusion Educational Module. Monitor your GW email for separate instructions and links to complete these online training modules.
    • In addition to the self-paced online Title IX Training, there is an additional live virtual session that all students must register for by Jan. 10, 2024 and attend the week of Jan. 15, 2024.

GWorld Card: Your Official ID while at GW

  • The deadline to submit a photo to create your GWorld Card in advance to be able to pick-up your card when checking into residence hall on Jan. 12 or 13 has passed (it was in December).
