Hello incoming spring 2024 students!

Next Wednesday, Nov. 22 , if you have already registered, you will receive your eBill, which is GW's name for the student account invoice for your tuition, fees and on-campus housing and meal plan (if applicable). If you have not registered by Tuesday, you will receive your eBill a few days after you register for your spring 2024 classes.

While some of you have had a head start planning some of the financial aspects of your college journey by filling out the FAFSA form and receiving your financial aid package, the arrival of the eBill invoice typically prompts many questions.

To help you understand some of these financial matters, click the button below to watch a 45-minute webinar and continue reading this overview and tips to help you understand Student Accounts and other financial matters at GW.

Your Student Account eBill

We bill by each semester. We do not mail paper statements; all billing is done electronically through the Student Account eBill, available in the Student Accounts menu in the GWeb Student Portal (login using your GW UserID). An email notification will be sent directly to your GW email when your bill/invoice is ready to view.

  • Make sure [email protected] is added as a trusted sender.
  • Payment is due by the first day of each semester, ie: Jan. 16 for spring 2024.

Adding an Authorized User

While the invoice will be sent to you (the student), you can grant another authorized user access to your Student Account who can make online payments by logging into the eBill system, via the GWeb Student Portal, and clicking on authorized users. Next, enter the other individual's email address and that new authorized user will be sent a unique encrypted password and link to your eBill.

Please note, if you add an authorized user to pay your invoice that does not mean GW has permission to discuss your student account/record with that person. If you would like for the university staff to discuss your student account with a parent or family member, please complete a Student Consent for Release Information to Parents/Third Parties form using your GW email account.

  • Note: Your authorized user can be the same or different from the parent/guardian/family member receiving GW Family Updates. The authorized eBill user added to your account, however, will not be added to the GW Families list as the Student Account system is a separate secure and encrypted system.

How to Read Your eBill Statement

It's important to understand the information that appears on your billing statement in order to make accurate, on-time payments. Your bill will include:

  • Spring 2024 Tuition
  • On-Campus Housing & Dining Meal Plan, if applicable
  • Mandatory Fees - including a one-time matriculation fee for first-time students, Student Association fee, U•Pass fee and, in some cases, course fees.
  • Another common charge is the Student Health Insurance Plan. It is mandatory for all enrolled students to have health insurance. All undergraduate students are automatically enrolled in GW's Student Health Insurance provided by Aetna. Note: If you plan on using your own health insurance plan (ie: parent/guardian or your employer's), you must waive out of the GW Health Plan each year you are enrolled at GW. The waiver to opt-out will be available on December 1 and must be completed by February 1.

How to Pay Your eBill

There are a variety of ways to pay your bill in full, including electronic checks via Student eBill, wire transfers, 529 plans, etc. You and your family should discuss together what method(s) best meets your needs.

Details about a few of the payment options:

  • Monthly Payment Plan
    • One of the more popular payment options is the monthly payment plan that enables you to pay for your fall and spring invoices in four equal installments.
    • Upcoming Deadline to Note: You can sign-up for monthly payments up until the day before the start of the semester, however, it is preferable to sign-up before Dec. 9 to stay on time with the monthly payment plan.
  • Wire Transfer Service
    • TransferMate is GW's wire transfer service option. TransferMate is an easy-to-use payment option that provides a streamlined and secure payment method through an integration with the Student Account Office's TouchNet Payment Center.

Optional Tuition Insurance

We recognize that sometimes a student may need to leave GW for health reasons before the semester is completed. We certainly hope this does not happen, but we know that it does occur and we want your family to be prepared. To mitigate the financial impact of such an occurrence, the university offers a tuition refund plan for your consideration.
