It is time to set-up your GWorld Card!

The GWorld Card is the official ID card for all members of the George Washington University community. Your GWorld Card grants you access to campus including all academic buildings, the library and your residence hall (if you will be living on-campus). You will also "swipe" or "tap" your card to enter the dining halls to eat on your GW Meal Plan, unlock your residence hall door, and print your term papers at printing kiosks.

PRO TIPS & HELPFUL HINTS

Take 10 to 15 Minutes Now to Save Time Later

All GWorld cards must include a valid photo. We are giving you an opportunity to submit your own photo in advance so that we can generate your card and have it ready when you arrive for the spring 2024 semester.

  • Students living in on-campus residence halls who successfully upload a valid photo by Dec. 15 will receive their GWorld card when checking into their on-campus room on Jan. 12 or 13.
  • Commuter students who successfully upload a valid photo by Dec. 15 will be able to swing by our office on the ground level of the University Student Center to pick-up their card anytime after Jan. 5.
  • NOTE! Anyone who does not meet the Dec. 15 photo submission deadline will have to stand in line at our office so we can process your card on-site. Residential students will be issued a 24-hour temporary access card to their room until a permanent GWorld card is issued.
  • In addition to our regular Monday - Friday business hours, we will be open limited hours on Saturday, Jan. 13 and Sunday, Jan. 14 from 10 am - 2 pm.

Follow the Photo Requirements

  • Use a solid, plain gray, white or neutral background. Avoid background patterns, selfies, or nature shots.
  • Do Not submit a picture with your head cut off. Photo should include head and shoulders.
  • Do Not use any app filters. Save that for your social media accounts.
  • Do follow other prompts on the photo submission form.
  • Finally…it is OK to smile, and please do!

Verify That It's You

  • Under affiliation, select "Student."
  • Upload a copy of your valid U.S. government photo ID such as a driver's license, state ID, passport or military ID. Note: Foreign IDs are not accepted. International students should upload the visa issued by the U.S. government to demonstrate proof of identity. View list of accepted forms of ID.
  • If you have a chosen first name other than what appears on your government document, enter it when prompted.

Choose Your Pick-Up Location

  • Residential Students: Select "HOUSING CHECK IN" as your pick-up location. Do NOT select Foggy Bottom.
  • Commuter Students: Select "Foggy Bottom." You will be notified when your card is ready for pick-up. Pick-up during normal business hours anytime after Jan. 5.

Houston, We Have a Problem

  • If your photo submission or government ID does not adhere to the guidelines, you will receive an email explaining the reasons your submission was rejected and you will need to start a new submission form.
  • When your photo is approved, you will receive a confirmation email. If you submit your documentation by December 15 and do not receive a confirmation email by December 22, please email us at [email protected] so that we can review the status of your card. All email inquiries should be sent using your GW email and include your Full Name, GWUserID (G followed by your assigned 8-digit number), and class-year.
  • We cannot guarantee that your GWorld Card will be ready if your photo submission is not successfully completed by Dec. 15.

If you have any questions during this process please contact our office at [email protected] or 202-994-1795.

We are open Monday through Friday, 9 am - 5 pm Eastern Time. Please Note: The university is closed for Thanksgiving on Nov 23 and Nov. 24, and for Winter Break from Dec. 23 - Jan. 1.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this important step in your journey to GW!
