Hello Revolutionaries!

You will soon begin one of the most exciting and transformational moments of your life as you start the spring 2024 semester as a member of our GW community.

By now you know how special the GW community is, and it's true! You are joining the ranks of more than 300,000 distinguished alumni in over 150 countries, and many started exactly where you are now–as a student who chose GW as their "Next Stop" on their life's journey.

As the Orientation team provides you with updates and information to help you prepare to start the spring 2024 semester, I wanted to take a moment to say hi and welcome you to GW.

As Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, I oversee the Division for Student Affairs, made up of a team of dedicated staff members, like Laci, Charlotte, Kraemer, Steven, Dani and Ayo from the Orientation, Class Year and Families Program unit. You will meet the team at your January Orientation. They help support connection, growth, and well-being for every student throughout their GW journey. Our guiding principle–our North Star–is "you belong here" and we help students find their place at GW.

That place may be in our residence halls, or living off-campus. It may be in a lab, or on the soccer pitch. You might also find belonging by joining a club sports team or one of our student organizations. Don't know where to begin? Check out GW Engage, a portal for students to search for upcoming activities, events and club/organizational meetings. One of my favorite events is "Chat with the Dean." About once a month, I host a gathering where there's no formal agenda. It is your opportunity to talk with me about life, school, music, hobbies, ideas, anything you'd like - and get connected to other GW students, too.

We are excited to have you as part of our community. I can't wait to meet you.

Colette Coleman

Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
