First Night GooseChase

Welcome to First Night, an annual event that brings the GW community together in celebration of a new academic year. This year, in addition to our beloved carnival in University Yard, we’ll go on a First Night GooseChase* - a competitive quest to complete clues and rack up points to win prizes!
First Night Prizes
Want to win some incredible prizes at First Night? You'll need to play our First Night GooseChase! The top 20 point leaders can win prizes from an iPad pro, Occulus VR Headset, Nintendo Switch Lite, and so much more. Good luck!
Gameplay
The First Night GooseChase will start at 5 PM ET and conclude at 8:30 PM ET. You can find the game by searching "GW First Night GooseChase" in the app, or using the custom game code: 6DV869
How to Play
Join a Game
Once you download and login to the iPhone or Android apps, the first thing to do is join a game. Just search for the name of the game or enter the specific game code within the app and away you go! All current GW students are welcome to play! Check out these player instructions for support.
Complete Missions
To complete a mission, select it from the list and follow the instructions to receive the allotted points. Sometimes you’ll be submitting a photo or video, while other times you’ll be solving a puzzle or riddle. Remember that while you receive the points right away, all submissions are subject to review by the Office of Student Life. Sometimes you’ll even get bonus points if your submission is extra impressive or creative - our GooseChase Judges will be watching behind the scenes and can assign points to any submission for any reason!
Track Opponents
The ability to see everything as it happens is one of the best parts of GooseChase. That's because whenever someone completes a mission, it’s added to the activity feed and the rankings are automatically updated. If you’re as competitive as we are, you’ll realize how awesome this is! At any given moment, you know exactly how you’re doing and what needs to be done to win.
Achieve Glory
When time runs out, the game may be done, but the fun is definitely not over. That's because the Student Life team will still need to announce the final scores after they review the submissions. Push hard until the very end, because you don't know who is ahead of you, or who has gone the extra mile to earn bonus points!
Player Expectations & Terms of Service
To ensure everyone has a fun time, we've established some rules for gameplay:
- All players must be current enrolled GW students.
- The game will be individuals only - no teams!
- Although this is a competitive game, your play should remain grounded in kindness and respect. GW does not support speech that denigrates members of our community. If that occurs, we will remove the person from this event and follow-up, including considering if formal conduct processes or restorative justice is appropriate.
- The Office of Student Life reserves the right to remove players from the game for any reason, including but not limited to violating GW's Code of Student Conduct.
