Your student has made a choice to attend GW - a choice we enthusiastically applaud! One of the ways we hope to serve you in that mission is to provide resources that will set you all up for success. Please utilize the information you and your student receive between the deposit deadline and the start of the semester, as well as information provided on this website. We are looking forward to partnering with you during your student’s time at GW!
If your student is wondering what their next steps are after confirming their enrollment at GW, let them know that they can find their next steps in their Admitted Student Portal and in the New Student Timeline & Checklist.
We also highly recommend that you and your student review the Resources for New Students as there are a wide variety of resources, offices, campus partners, and more listed on that page to help your student achieve a successful transition to GW.
Orientation
We are excited to welcome you and your student to the GW community. Your student will complete many important steps before starting classes. These initial next steps are included in your student’s admitted student portal where they located their Admission’s decision. Over the next couple of months, leading up to the start of the semester, your student will review the Buff & Blue Book, complete the Pre-Orientation Online Modules, and register for classes. We encourage you to check in with your student and discuss communication you both receive via email. Soon, we’ll be welcoming you for Move-In and New Student Orientation; until then, explore the options we offer new families to get you acquainted to GW and campus resources.
We will be offering one optional Parents, Families & Supporters Orientation session for Fall 2024 Orientation. We are excited to welcome the families of our incoming new students to campus to learn more about our GW community and campus life! The Parents, Families & Supporters Orientation session will take place on Sunday, August 18. More information about this session will be available later this summer.

Tuesday Talks Webinar Series
Tuesday Talks is a summer webinar series for family members and supporters of new students focused on acclimating you to GW resources, processes, and requirements in a live, virtual environment. Campus partners will cover topics such as how to read and pay your e-bill, how dining at GW and in D.C. works, details about the Student Health Insurance Plan, and more.
Tuesday Talks are facilitated and recorded every summer.
Stay Connected
As you get ready to come to GW, you will receive periodic updates and notices via our Next Stop, GW! newsletter. Next Stop, GW! is a comprehensive electronic newsletter providing timely and relevant information, and serves as an introduction to student life and living at GW. You are also able to view all of the Next Stop, GW! newsletters that are sent to students.
Attention: We utilize family member emails provided on a student’s Common Application to GW. If you would like your email or another family member’s email to be included in outreach specifically from Orientation, please ask your student to add your contact info onto their Common Application.
