The George Washington Police Department (GWPD) provides residential hall security and patrol services to the Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon campuses and oversees security at the VSTC campus. The Department also coordinates safety & security for a variety of on-campus special events, including Commencement, Colonial Weekend and visits by dignitaries. In addition to those roles and responsibilities, GWPD provides crime prevention education to the GW community.
- GW Safe Ride

GW SafeRide provides a free and safe ride to/from Foggy Bottom Campus residence halls and academic buildings during late-night hours for students, faculty and staff who prefer to not walk alone. This safe ride service operates seven days a week (Sunday - Saturday) from 7 PM until 4 AM. GW SafeRide operates during the academic year except on designated university holidays. Students seeking transport for "convenience" or who would like to travel outside of the GW campus service area should use local transport services such as taxicabs, Uber, or Lyft.

The mission of the Division of Safety and Security is to provide a safe and secure campus environment for all members of the university community. This mission is achieved through active participation of all university members and partnerships with local law enforcement and community partners.
